Paper # 22221: Introduction of Clear Shaped Charges to Saudi Carbonate Stimulation: Improved Reservoir Conductivity Through Debris Free Perforation Tunnel Leading to Enhanced Production

Date & Time: February 22, 2022; 12:00 – 12:30
Location:  Meeting Room 4; Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre

Abstract: A large, equal entry-hole combined with a debris free, clean, perforating-tunnel allows reduced fluid friction during production, as such, better reservoir connectivity leading to enhanced production. Smaller charges, for example, a 0.32-inch RDX shaped charge with a ~21-gram copper-lead liner, engineered for frequently RIH 3 1/8-inch gun can produce, at max, a 0.36-inch entry-hole. While a uniform entry-hole allows unrestricted production with minimal backpressure, a larger perforation provides enhanced production and improved recovery.
We have now bridged this technology gap by designing a novel shape charge with a dissolvable liner, stemming from our patented Bulk Metallic Glass Composites (BMGC) and High Entropy Alloys (HEA). Our novel 0.32-inch dissolvable shaped charge designed for universal 3 1/8-inch guns produces >0.5-inch equal-entry-holes and a debris free perforation-tunnel.
